Falls Prevention

Hi this is Glenn.
Recently I had a meeting with a Falls Prevention Officer in Suffolk and felt enlightened by what she told me.  It is evident that a lot of the equipment we supply can be used not only in coping  with disabilities and infirmities but even in helping to prevent them!
At goactivemobility we care about people and are keen to help in any way we can.  Surely we all agree that prevention is better than cure!
So whilst we are of course very happy to help cope with situations such as mobility difficulties if we can help prevent or minimise them we are happy with this too.

I will be adding to this section over the weeks that follow and will be listing products we have that can help in falls prevention.
Just as an example we have a very popular item on page 54 of our catalogue, one which my mum has just bought, which is designed to make putting on socks or stockings easier.
It is only £4.49, it is called a stockings aid and its use reduces the need to bend over when fitting stockings etc.

Any product, and there are many, which reduces bending and perhaps upsetting balance or stability is an obvious falls preventing measure.  I give this as an example to set the ball rolling, more will follow in the fullness of time.  In the meantime, please take care of yourselves and your family and call for any advice or orders you wish to place.

Update 23/11/11

Hi.  For all of us our needs can change as our medical conditions change.  Personally I have issues with load bearing on my legs due to back conditions, also balance issues due to menieres and now have developed a breathing difficulty. All these add up to a high falls risk when not in my wheelchair.  So indoors I have strategically placed handles and furniture (only strong furniture suffices and correctly fitted handles) to grab for extra stability.  For any movement indoors, if not using a wheelcair, I always use my smartcrutches.  These are particularly good since they are set up to not place my full weight on my wrists (call for more details on smartcrutches).  The point I am getting at is planning ahead for potential falls is a great preventative measure.  The layout of rooms and the equipment available which inlcudes things like the right kind of slippers (yes we can provide these too) makes all the difference.

Speak to us for advice for everything from the small aids to major building adaptations, no job to big or small!

Don't suffer in silence!  Give us a call we will always help if we can and having coped for in excess of 16 years with falls issues I can give first hand and empathetic advice.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Glenn.
