Rise Recliners are chairs that feature a powered lifting
mechanism that pushes the entire chair up from its base, allowing the user to
easily move to a standing position.
Possibly one of the most important items that a less abled
person can buy. It’s important to differentiate between the quality and
different actions/mechanisms available.
Rise Recliners can be relatively inexpensive but as with
everything, the price you are prepared to pay will affect the number and the
sophistication level of the features available.
Different types of Rise Recline actions/mechanisms
1) Single motor chairs:
Have just what their name implies a single motor! This is an
important difference to make as it fundamentally affects the reclining action.
The impact of only having one motor is that when the chair reclines, the
backrest and footplate move together or in a coordinated fashion. Single motor
chairs do not fully recline. They have 2 recline positions: straight, and "TV
recline", which is leaned slightly back for reading, relaxing or watching
television. It is normal for the recliner to only go back to an angle of 45
degrees.
A single motor chair that operates the back and leg rest together. This
mechanism requires 12" - 15" behind the chair to recline.
2)Dual Action:
The Dual Action Motor mechanism operates using 2 motors. One
motor operates the footrest of the chair and the other motor operates the back.
This means that the footrest and back are operated independently enabling foot
up and back up positioning if required.
This flexibility also allows the seat to fully recline into
a sleeping position if required. Making it the ideal option if a less baled
person needs to sit and sleep in the chair.
These have 3 recline positions Straight, Recline and
full Recline. This is a mechanism that operates using 2 motors. One motor
operates the footrest of the chair and the other motor operates the back.
Rise Recliner Types of back
Button Back
This is a very traditional style and produces a neat looking
chair. In general, a button back will provide reasonably firm support to your
back although it is possible to have a soft button back design.
Waterfall Back
The Waterfall back is a modern style incorporating 3
bolster cushions, which all have zipped backs to enable the user to create
their own personalized comfort. Each cushion has a zip which enables you to add
or take out the amount of filling required. Its versatility makes it one of the
most popular styles of chair available. A softer option than the button back.
Orthopedic Flat back with head roll
This type of back provides firm support and will be suitable
if you experience back pain. The shape of the back mirrors the contours of your
spines natural position and encourages good posture. This type of back
also has the added benefit of the back being able to be manufactured if
required using vasco foam, therefore providing the perfect solution to pressure
management.
